WOODLAND US ARMY SHIRT
DESCRIPTION
Originally issued as part of the U.S. military’s Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) system, this Woodland camouflage field jacket became the standard combat garment for American forces beginning in the early 1980s. It features the M81 Woodland camouflage pattern, introduced in 1981 and derived from the earlier ERDL camouflage used during the Vietnam War. Designed as a durable field uniform for temperate environments, it was widely used across multiple branches of the U.S. armed forces including the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps and certain Navy units.
Constructed from either cotton twill or a durable 50% cotton 50% nylon ripstop fabric, the jacket features a classic four pocket configuration with two chest pockets and two lower cargo pockets for practical storage. The front closes with a full button placket, while reinforced elbows and adjustable cuffs enhance durability and functionality.
Today it remains one of the most influential camouflage garments ever produced, shaping decades of military equipment, workwear, outdoor clothing and contemporary streetwear.
