US FIREFIGHTER RFD CHIEF JACKET
DESCRIPTION
Originally issued to American fire departments, this vintage turnout coat was designed as a protective outer layer for field operations. Built from heavy cotton canvas with high-visibility orange bands, it offered durability, visibility, and dependable performance in demanding conditions.
The coat features the classic hook-and-D-ring front closure used on mid- to late-20th-century firefighter gear, reinforced pocket construction, and a protective storm flap. The brown corduroy collar provided comfort and insulation at the neck, while the wide cut allowed easy layering over uniforms and equipment.
This example features stitched lettering made from the same reflective orange material as the visibility bands, reading “CHIEF RFD 34” across the back. These applied characters identify it as the coat of a department chief within an American Rural or Regional Fire Department. A collectible piece of functional history, marked by authentic wear and a strong visual identity.
